Monika and Joachim start to have serious problems when Monika has a miscarriage and Joachim blames himself. Together with Freddy, Monika throws herself into composing a song for Hannelore Lay to sing at the Eurovision Song Contest. Eva and Jürgen Fassbender’s marriage takes an even worse turn. Wolfgang makes the decision to resign and tries to alleviate his guilt by telling Helga what happened. She, in turn, makes her own confession. Wolfgang's longing for Liebknecht resurfaces; he goes looking for him.
