Unable to publish Zarah’s report on prostitution, the magazine loses its title story. Facing extreme pressure, the editorial team come together to find a solution.

While the journalists succeed in producing a new issue within just a few hours, editor-in-chief Kerckow disappears without a trace. Nobody knows his whereabouts. Zarah uses the opportunity to petition Olsen to appoint her in Kerckow’s place.

But Olsen has no desire whatsoever for her to take over the editorial reins – he has set his sights on another member of the team. He has also found a good match for his daughter Jenny: the young reporter Rüdiger Lenz. At a party Zarah jealously watches the couple as they dance together.

There is still no trace of Kerckow, but the spotlight now falls on another figure. In the middle of the night Zarah finds her father waiting for her on the shore alongside her houseboat.
