Zarah receives a visit from her old friend Jutta Belitz, a member of the Baader-Meinhof Gang who is wanted for terrorist offences. She urgently needs a safe place to stay.

Although Zarah disapproves of all forms of violence, a close bond has existed between her and Jutta since their childhood. Zarah allows her to stay, but in the editorial office Karin Simonis learns that Zarah is procuring iodine and painkillers, and becomes suspicious.

Zarah no longer recognises her one-time best buddy, who has become vicious, cold and ruthless. She wants Jutta and her boyfriend and comrade-in-arms Stefan Berger to leave her houseboat, but they have the upper hand and resort to blackmail. A string of excuses fielded by Zarah to keep Jenny away from the boat severely complicates their burgeoning love affair.

Jenny now lacks confidence in Zarah’s feelings and, when the public prosecutor Dr. Beusen then appears and has Zarah’s desk searched, she appears finally to have hit the rocks. At this vital moment, it is none other than Kerckow who comes to her aid.
