Two years after Japan’s audacious attack on Pearl Harbor America’s great war machine now has them on the back foot. The US Navy devise a way to end the war - taking a series of Island groups, from where they can directly strike on Japan’s home Islands.

In June 1944, as the American Navy closes in on Saipan and the Marianas Islands Emperor Hirohito orders his military to keep the Islands at all costs.  Not only do these Islands have Japanese civilians living on them, but with just 1500 miles between the Marianas and Tokyo, he knows that enemy capture of the Islands would put the home islands – and his own dynasty -under threat from long range American bombing raids.
