When the Hohenzollerns proclaimed themselves “Kings in Prussia,” that marked the rise of a German power built upon the downfall of Poland. Other low points in German-Polish relations were the policies of the German Empire and, in particular, World War II, unleashed by Nazi Germany. A more positive relationship began in 1989-1991. Now the two countries are not just neighbors, they are friends.
