In the post-war summer of 1945, the occupying British army has set up its central administration on a peninsula that has been sealed off from the mainland. Healthcare worker Gesa is working in a laundromat here. Her beloved Friedrich is interned on the mainland as a prisoner of war. Thick barbed wire and the cold waters of the North Sea separate them from one another. In spite of this, they risk clandestine meetings in the high grass of the dunes on the peninsula. But then Gesa falls in love with Captain Simon, a British officer with German roots.
