Upon learning that he has little time left to live, Holm plans to bid farewell to his family with one, grand, final appearance, a kind of "deathstravaganza" that his children and their spouses, his ex-wife and his best friends are intended to marvel at one last time. Somehow, the evening doesn't turn into a touchy-feely, emotional family gathering, but a businesslike settling of accounts with the patriarch. During the course of the evening, everyone is subjected to a painful but cleansing cross-examination.
