At the heart of the family drama series in picture-book Bavaria is the young Marie, whose barn — the venue of her eve-of-wedding party — catches fire. Her father, the local fire chief Ernst Reiter, prevents the worst from happening, but it quickly becomes clear that his volunteer brigade is in such bad shape that it faces the prospect of disbandment. Spurred into action, Marie joins the brigade to ensure its survival with the help of the mayor.
