The eucalyptus forests of Eastern Australia are famous, both for flavouring of throat sweats and as home to cuddly looking koalas. But there is more to the lush woodland than meets the eyes – in the undergrowth strange birds build elaborate nests and rip-off each other’s calls. By day there are snakes everywhere and under the cover of night strange mammals take to the air. Australia’s weirdest creatures make this there home – the egg-laying, duck-billed platypus and its strange spiny cousin the echidna. But its koalas that steal the show in the forests, and when mating season comes around it turns out they are not as cuddly as they first appear!

The filming of the series “Wild Australia” took three years. Renowned wildlife filmmakers Thoralf Grospitz and Jens Westphalen used specialized macro- and super slow-motion HD cameras to portray the animal kingdom down under. This is Australia as you’ve never seen it before!
