In the endless blue of the Pacific lies Hawaiʻi – one of the most isolated places on Earth, shaped by ancient volcanoes and home to species found nowhere else. HAWAII – Islands of Fire and Life explores this fragile paradise in breathtaking imagery by Lars Pfeiffer and Florian Graner. From singing humpback whales and gliding manta rays to rare forest birds and glowing plankton, the islands reveals it’s beauty. These ecosystems, formed in isolation, are delicately balanced – and increasingly under threat. Invasive species and plastic waste now reach even the most remote atolls. Yet there is hope. Across the islands, scientists and activists fight to wave what is and try to restore what has been. They work to protect the future of this extraordinary place, guided by the principle of mālama ʻāina – to care for the land.
