Welcome to the greatest show on Earth, as our woodlands undergo their annual transformation. The curtain rises in spring, when fresh leaves drench the forests in vibrant green, and a woodpecker drills for maple syrup, while insects feast on the bird’s leftovers. In summer, flowers bloom, seeds and nuts ripen, and the forests buzz with life. In the third act, we witness a blaze of autumnal glory before the leaves fall. Luckily, the squirrels and jays have already stashed their nuts away. The final act sees cold winds scatter carpets of colour, as the birds migrate to warmer climates, while the trees and other wildlife prepare for winter.
The performance is not yet over. The actors are ready for the new season, as winter lifts the curtain, and a stunning performance begins again in spring.
