The invention of the balloon fulfilled humanity's greatest dream: to fly above the earth. As soon as a balloon floats through the sky, people stop and marvel. Whether powered by hot air or gas, balloons have fascinated people since their invention in 1783. Graphic novels tell the story of the historical milestones of ballooning beyond the film. From Leonardo da Vinci's first thoughts on rising hot air to the competition between the Montgolfier brothers and Jacques Charles in 1783, which gave rise to the two systems of hot air balloons and gas balloons. It also recounts the daring acrobatic feats of Napoleon's “imperial aeronaut” Sophie Blanchard, who set off fireworks over the skies of Paris from her balloon. The spectacle ended fatally for her, but her memorial still stands today in the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery.
