As Klincus and the Frondosians travel through the forest in search of his parents' home, Ailina meets Corso, an orphan who works in Graylock's factory. She sees for herself what horrible conditions the orphans live in and escapes from the factory by stealing the latest prototype built by Graylock: a flying machine.
