At the age of 15, Rupert Seidlein was forced to watch as his parents and his best friend were shot to death by two policemen. The policemen were acquitted of all charges. Thirty years later, Rupert and his wife Anja return to the town he grew up in. He appears to have already dealt with this fateful night, seems happy and even toasts to reconciliation with now-retired police chief Horn. But Horn drowns in the Rhine a short while later. Anja suspects this is not a coincidence.
