Many animals do not migrate in winter and do not hibernate either. How do they cope with snow and cold if they do not spend the winter in sheltered burrows or fly south? How do they find food when everything lies beneath a thick layer of snow or ice?
The new film by the long-time nature and documentary filmmaker Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann explores these questions.
Large parts of Germany are characterized by low mountain ranges. Some reach elevations well over 1,000 meters, such as the Harz and the Black Forest. Although winters here are not as snowy as in the Alps, in earlier years snow was a matter of course in most low mountain ranges - often for weeks. That has changed - and for some animals, this is very much to their advantage.
