The Power of Fire - Our Earth is burning

In the summer of 2018, heat and months of drought cause uncontrolled wildfire worldwide. Is the drought a foretaste of the climate of tomorrow? Fires are breaking out in places where nobody expects them – like this year in Sweden.

Climate scientists and fire researchers are looking for ways to counter the growing fire risk. In Spain, scientists are testing a model that uses cypresses as green fire walls. In Germany, a unique system for early fire detection has been developed. "Firewatch" is a sensitive sensor system, a thousand times more precise than the human eye, that can detect smoke even miles away. The mission "Firebird" from the German Aerospace Center has sent two satellites into space that detect thermal events on earth with infrared cameras. Is that enough to effectively fight fire in the future? What else can we do?
