The Karoo Desert in South Africa is a major palaeontological site that preserves 120 million years of life history. An expedition led by Professor Bruce Rubidge and Julien Benoit is exploring this region in search of fossils. Contrary to popular belief, it is not mainly dinosaurs that have been discovered here, but the ancestors of mammals. Their fossils show significant adaptations, and the Rubidge team's research is helping us to better understand the diversification of mammals.
