Flight attendant Jette Krogmann flies to Iceland with the ashes of her much-loved aunt Rosalie. It had been her aunt’s wish to have her final resting place there. Rosalie was one of the 300 young women who emigrated to Iceland in 1949 to escape starvation and try their luck in the far north. Jette takes a few days off work to find the right place to deposit her aunt’s remains. Where exactly did Rosalie live back then – where had she found a sense of well-being? And given the diary entries revealing Iceland to be the place where she had spent the happiest days of her life, why had she left?
