A dead body was found at a beach on the North Sea. The dead person is Alexander, the husband of the beautiful and uncommunicative Bettina Halbach. Although the marriage was unhappy and the relationship is actually put on hold, Bettina always sticked by Alexander, even during his severe kidney disease. Together they owned a summer cottage on the island, where Bettina shut herself away for a couple of month. And it´s there, where she also lives out the affaire to her lover Tom. Because of that, the marriage of Tom and Ulrike, who own a guesthouse on the island, experience a deep crisis.
