Darijo was the son of Croatian immigrants, and his mother Lida worked for the Reinartz family, a family of influential businesspeople. Lida and her husband Darko lived with their son in her employer’s house. Could the kidnapper have mistaken Darijo for one of the two Reinartz sons?
