The friendship between two Baltic fishermen – the blustering Paul and the quiet Fiete – is about to be put to the test when Paul finds out by chance that Fiete, and not he, is Piet's true father. As fate would have it, the young man returns home just after launching a promising career in the city. While Paul and Fiete declare war on each other – and make fools of themselves along the way – Piet tries to pick up where he left off with his sweetheart Lisa, who is just as out of reach now, as peace seems out of reach between Piet's two dads...
