ZDF Studios launches international format sales for Neo Match Up

New episodes of the stereotype-busting guessing entertainment show headed into production as ZDF Studios brings format to the international market

Mainz, 31 8 2026

ZDF Studios will handle the worldwide format distribution rights for Neo Match Up, the ZDFneo entertainment show that challenges assumptions and first impressions through a fast-paced guessing game.

The announcement comes as four new episodes of the format are set to go into production for ZDFneo, following the first season of four 30-minute episodes that aired earlier this year. Produced by 1Take Films, Neo Match Up is hosted on ZDFneo by entertainer and comedian Parshad Esmaeili, who goes head-to-head with a different celebrity guest in each episode.

In Neo Match Up, five people and five identities must be correctly matched. Contestants can question the players and test their instincts, but the format's central challenge lies in overcoming stereotypes and misleading first impressions. Whether unusual professions, extraordinary life stories or unexpected personal backgrounds, every reveal encourages participants and viewers alike to rethink what they think they know about the people in front of them.

Combining humour, celebrity participation and a universally relatable game mechanic, Neo Match Up offers a fresh take on the classic matching and deduction genre. The format's compact 30-minute structure and flexible thematic approach allow it to be adapted easily for different markets and audiences.

Ralf Rückauer, VP Unscripted, ZDF Studios: "Neo Match Up takes a universally appealing idea and gives it a contemporary twist. At its heart, it is a highly entertaining show about perception, intuition and surprise. With new episodes now in production for ZDFneo, this is the ideal moment to introduce the format to international buyers looking for adaptable entertainment concepts with strong audience engagement."

With a second batch of episodes now entering production in Germany, ZDF Studios is introducing the format to international broadcasters and production partners seeking distinctive entertainment brands with proven local broadcaster backing and strong adaptation potential.
