From the producers of Generation War and the acclaimed writer behind Weissensee, Ku’damm is a tremendously successful period drama set in post-war Berlin. Centred on the formidable owner of a prestigious dance school and her family, the series charts their personal and political struggles as they navigate shifting cultural tides and fight to define their own identities. Spanning decades - from the buttoned-up 1950s to the vibrant 1970s - Ku’damm offers a rare, compelling lens on history and the evolving roles of women in a changing world.
Season 4 takes a deep dive into 70s Berlin, a city pulsing with the energy of disco and the ever-present tension of the Cold War era. The apartment above the dance school now houses three generations of the Schöllack family: the sisters Monika and Helga, their nearly grown-up daughters Dorli and Friederike, as well as their mother Caterina.
Life among the women is turbulent. Monika is laser-focused on Dorli’s dance career, but the pressure strains their once-close bond. Helga, reeling from a broken marriage, loses herself in drink and the arms of Hannes, a Dahlem dentist, much to the disapproval of her daughter Friederike. Sharp-tongued matriarch Caterina claims she’s stopped meddling, but when her youngest daughter Eva returns after 14 years from prison, her comeback threatens to upend the family dynamic.
Wild, funny, existential and full of heart, Ku’damm illustrates that however fiercely women like the Schöllacks fight with each other, they fight for each other even harder.
