When Justus von Brevern, a notorious swindler, is found murdered after a ball, it falls on the newly appointed judge Paul von Fock to solve the crime.

While the suspect list is extensive and evidence either disappears or shows up on Sagadi grounds, Paul must start breaking some rules himself.

The mystery claims another two victims, Lady Brevern and a suspect, but a mysterious entry in the notebook is deciphered – and Paul is still in danger.

Paul survives the latest attack on his life and finally manages to piece the puzzle of the mystery together at the art auction in Vihula manor.

The star of Magnus’s summer ball is found dead and Paul is forced to unravel yet another murder mystery instead of announcing his engagement.
