When Pettson and Findus return from an outing in the forest, they discover a dead magpie – the "nosey parker" – in the farmyard. Findus and the hens are very sad that she has died. Pettson explains to them that the magpie was very old, and they all decide to give her a nice funeral by the lakeside. During their preparations, they fondly remember experiences they had with her.
