On 11th October 1988 bank robber Graeme Jensen was shot by police who bungled his arrest (ironically for a crime he didn’t do). His fellow gang members saw it as a willful act of murder by police and vowed revenge. They laid a trap for two young Police men. Constables Steven Tynan and Damian Eyre responded to an abandoned car in Walsh Street where they were ambushed and murdered. The ensuing investigation was beset by problems and led to a bungled trial which saw 4 men acquitted of the crime.
